Abdullah DeLancey is a Canadian healthcare worker, husband, and father of three. Before embracing Islam, he spent his entire life as a devoted Protestant Christian. For Abdullah, truth had to be consistent with both revelation and reason.
A Spiritual Crossroads
As he continued his research, his confidence in Christian doctrine gradually disappeared. He concluded that God is One, perfect, and fully capable of forgiving His servants without requiring a human sacrifice or divine intermediary.
Unable to reconcile these convictions with his former beliefs, Abdullah left the church. His wife, who had also been struggling with similar questions, supported his decision.
Although they no longer belonged to a religion, they continued to believe in one Creator and remained determined to find the truth.
Discovering Islam
At first, Islam was unfamiliar to Abdullah. Living in Canada, most of what he knew came from negative media reports rather than personal experience.
Out of curiosity, he began reading about Islam. One book led to another, and eventually he read the Qur'an.
The message of the Qur'an had a profound impact on him. Its emphasis on the absolute oneness of God, its consistency, and its clarity answered many of the questions that had remained unresolved throughout his earlier religious life.
Motivated to learn more, he immersed himself in studying Islamic teachings and searching for reliable resources.
Visiting the Mosque
When Abdullah discovered that the nearest mosque was nearly one hundred miles from his home, he gathered his family and made the journey.
He arrived feeling both excited and anxious, wondering whether he would be welcomed as a non-Muslim.
His fears quickly disappeared. The imam and members of the mosque greeted him warmly, answered his questions, and introduced him to authentic Islamic literature, including books by the late Ahmed Deedat.
Their kindness left a lasting impression and strengthened his desire to continue learning.
Accepting Islam
After extensive study and reflection, Abdullah became convinced that Islam was the faith he had been searching for.
On March 24, 2006, before the Friday prayer and in the presence of members of the local Muslim community, he declared the Shahadah:
"There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
That moment marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
He describes embracing Islam as the greatest day of his life—a day that brought him peace, certainty, and a renewed purpose.
Facing New Challenges
Accepting Islam was not without sacrifice.
Some relatives distanced themselves from him, many longtime friends ended their relationships, and others mocked his decision.
Despite these hardships, Abdullah remained steadfast. His trust in Allah gave him strength to persevere, and he found support within the Muslim community, where he gained many brothers in faith.

After becoming Muslim, Abdullah legally changed his first name and continued serving his local community.
He later became the first Muslim chaplain officially approved to work at his local hospital, providing spiritual care and support to patients from diverse backgrounds.
