The Signs of the Hour and What Comes After Death
Introduction
Belief in the Last Day is one of the six pillars of Islamic faith. Muslims believe that this world is temporary and that every soul will eventually stand before Allah to be judged according to its deeds.
Before the Day of Judgment, Allah has informed humanity of major signs that will take place, preparing believers for the final events of this world.
Among the greatest of these signs are the appearance of the Dajjal (the False Messiah), the return of Prophet Jesus (Isa, peace be upon him), the final battle between truth and falsehood, and the establishment of justice before the end of time.
“The Dajjal will claim divinity and will be granted extraordinary abilities as a test for mankind. Many people will be deceived by the miracles they witness, while true believers will remain steadfast by relying on faith and knowledge.
The Great Trial
The period of the Dajjal will be unlike any other time in history. He will travel rapidly across the earth, spreading deception and calling people to worship him instead of Allah.
“He will appear to possess powers such as causing rain to fall, bringing apparent prosperity to those who follow him, and hardship to those who reject him. These extraordinary events are tests from Allah, not signs of true divinity.
Despite his influence, he will never be able to enter Makkah or Madinah, as both cities will be protected by angels.
The Great Battle
Before the destruction of the Dajjal, a great battle will take place between the forces of truth and falsehood. The Muslims will face enormous trials and sacrifices, yet Allah will grant victory to those who remain patient and steadfast.
This battle marks one of the final stages before the return of Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him).
The Return of Prophet Isa (Jesus)
Islam teaches that Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) was neither killed nor crucified. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself, and he will return before the Day of Judgment.
Allah says:
"But they killed him not, nor crucified him; it was only made to appear so to them... Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself." (Qur'an 4:157–158)
The Qur'an also states:
"And indeed, he will be a sign of the Hour." (Qur'an 43:61)
Prophet Isa will descend near Damascus and join the believers. He will not bring a new religion but will rule according to the guidance of Islam and the teachings brought by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
“After his descent, Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) will pursue the Dajjal and ultimately defeat him.
Justice and Peace
Following the defeat of the Dajjal, justice and peace will spread throughout the world.
“Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) will establish righteousness, remove corruption, and govern with fairness according to Allah's guidance. People will worship Allah alone, oppression will disappear, and security will become widespread.
This period will represent one of the most peaceful times in human history before the final events leading to the Day of Judgment.
What Happens After Death?
Islam teaches that death is not the end of existence but the beginning of another stage of life.
Every person will experience death, enter the life of the grave (Barzakh), and remain there until the Day of Resurrection.
When Allah commands, all people will be resurrected and gathered for judgment. Every deed, whether great or small, will be presented before Allah.
“Those who rejected the truth after it became clear and persisted in disbelief will be held accountable for their actions.
Preparing for the Hereafter
The signs of the Hour are not merely descriptions of future events. They are reminders for every believer to strengthen faith, increase righteous deeds, seek forgiveness, and prepare for meeting Allah.
The temporary nature of this world reminds us that true success lies in obedience to Allah, sincerity in worship, and following the guidance brought by His prophets.
Conclusion
The signs of the Hour affirm that this world has an appointed end and that every human being will ultimately return to Allah. The appearance of the Dajjal, the return of Prophet Isa (peace be upon him), the triumph of truth, and the final judgment all demonstrate Allah's perfect wisdom and justice.
For the believer, these events are not a source of fear alone but a call to remain steadfast, strengthen faith, and prepare for the everlasting life that awaits after death.
