The Concept of God in Islam
Throughout history, people have searched for answers to life's most fundamental questions: Who created us? Why are we here? What is the purpose of our existence? Islam provides clear and comprehensive answers to these questions through its understanding of God.
“In Islam, God is known as Allah, the One True God, the Creator and Sustainer of everything that exists. He is unique, without partners, equals, children, or parents. Nothing resembles Him, and nothing in creation shares His divine nature. He is eternal, self-sufficient, and independent of all things, while everything depends upon Him.
The Islamic concept of God is based on pure monotheism. Muslims believe that God alone deserves worship because He alone created the universe, controls its affairs, and provides for all creation. Worship is therefore directed solely to Him, without intermediaries, images, or other beings.
This belief forms the foundation of Islam and the message taught by all prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all).
God's Mercy, Justice, and Guidance
God is not only powerful and majestic, but also merciful and compassionate. Every chapter of the Quran, except one, begins with the words: "In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate." His mercy encompasses all things, and He continually provides guidance, forgiveness, and opportunities for people to return to Him.
“At the same time, He is perfectly just, rewarding good and holding people accountable for their choices.
Islam teaches that human life has a purpose. People were not created by chance or without meaning. Rather, they were created to know their Creator, worship Him, and live according to His guidance.
Through faith and righteous actions, a person develops a meaningful relationship with God and gains a deeper understanding of life's challenges and blessings.
Purpose, Direction, and Inner Peace
Belief in God also provides a sense of direction and inner peace. When people understand where they came from, why they are here, and where they are ultimately going, life becomes clearer and more meaningful. Difficulties are no longer seen as meaningless suffering, but as opportunities for growth, patience, and spiritual development.
The concept of God in Islam is therefore not merely a theological belief. It is a complete worldview that shapes how a person understands life, morality, purpose, and destiny. Through recognizing the Oneness of God and living according to His guidance, individuals can find clarity, purpose, and lasting peace in both this life and the life to come.
