A Muslim is a person who believes in Allah and follows His guidance as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Muslims believe that Allah is the same God worshipped by Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all), and that the Quran is His final revelation to humanity.
The Quran not only explains why human beings were created but also describes what happens after death and how this life is connected to the eternal life that follows.
The Last Day
Islam teaches that the universe will one day come to an end.
On the Last Day, all creation will perish before Allah resurrects every human being for judgment. Every person, from the first human being to the last, will be gathered to stand before their Lord.
The Quran vividly describes these events: "When the sky bursts open, when the stars are scattered, when the seas overflow, and when the graves are overturned, every soul will know what it has sent ahead and what it has left behind." (Quran 82:1–5)
This Day is known as the Day of Resurrection and the Day of Judgment.
Every Deed Will Be Accounted For
Nothing a person does is ever forgotten.
Every good deed, every evil action, every word, and every intention are recorded and will be presented before Allah.
The Quran says: "Then people will proceed in separate groups to be shown their deeds. So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it." (Quran 99:6–8)
Allah's judgment is perfectly fair. He says: "Then every soul will be fully compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged." (Quran 2:281).
Every individual will answer only for his or her own actions.
Allah says: "No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ." (Quran 6:164)
The Record of Deeds
Every person will receive a complete record of his or her life.
The Quran describes this moment: "And the record will be placed before them, and you will see the criminals fearful of what is within it. They will say, 'Oh, woe to us! What is this record that leaves nothing small or great except that it has counted it?
' They will find everything they did before them, and your Lord does injustice to no one." (Quran 18:49)
Nothing will be overlooked, and no injustice will occur.
Why Is There a Day of Judgment?
The Day of Judgment reflects Allah's perfect justice.
Many people commit terrible crimes during their lives yet die without facing earthly punishment. Others suffer oppression and injustice without receiving justice in this world.
Without a final judgment, ultimate justice would never exist.
Islam teaches that every act of oppression, cruelty, murder, theft, betrayal, or abuse will be answered before Allah.
Likewise, every sacrifice, every act of kindness, every prayer, and every good deed will receive its full reward.
The Principles of Divine Judgment
Allah's judgment is based upon complete justice, absolute knowledge, and perfect mercy.
Perfect Justice
Allah does not discriminate based on race, nationality, wealth, gender, or social status.
Every individual will be judged fairly according to faith, intentions, and deeds.
